There are 3 main woodworking joints…

…And You Can Learn Them In a Day

Need to learn basic joints for an upcoming project class?
Always wanted to try woodworking, but didn’t know where to begin?
Wondering if you’re the type of person to build things by hand?

You’re in the right place!

At Full Circle Woodworking, you’ll start by learning the fundamentals of hand-tool woodworking.

Dovetail, housing dado, and mortise & tenon - the fundamental woodworking joints

In our Intro to Joinery class, you’ll learn and practice the 3 main woodworking joints:

  • Dovetail
  • Housing Dado
  • Mortise & Tenon

These 3 joints are the building blocks on which most woodworking is based.

Never heard of them? No problem! No experience is required for our Intro class.

Once you’ve learned these 3 joints, all that’s left is practice for you to be able to build beautiful projects by hand.

Why Choose Woodworking?

Whether it’s a creative outlet, a hobby, or just something that’s been passed down – you’ll love being able to build things by hand.

No matter your reason for considering woodworking – the best way to find out if it’s for you is to do it.

And there’s no better way to test a new hobby than to take a course from an experienced instructor who can show you the right way to do things.

Many people fall in love with it immediately, and it becomes a lifelong passion.

Why Use Hand Tools?

Hand-tool woodworking skills are important, because they allow you to be more versatile in your projects.  These are skills that have mostly been lost in most modern woodworking.

You can use power tools, and we do at times, but fine woodworking generally requires that you use hand tools.

You’re in complete control when you use a hand tool, and you sometimes relinquish this control when you use power tools.

Sometimes, a cut made by hand can even be more accurate than one made by a power tool!

meet your instructor

Wayne Miller has had many careers in his life.

From short order cook to infantry soldier, trim carpenter to electrical engineer, he’s had experience in a wide array of career paths.

Unfortunately, nothing felt “quite right”, until he discovered woodworking.

Since boyhood in central Kentucky, sitting in the forest whittling with a pocket knife, woodworking has been his constant therapy and joy.

In 2006, when his last child left home, Wayne discovered he had an excess of time and money suddenly.

He began taking classes at the world-famous Homestead Heritage School of Woodworking under internationally-known craftsmen Paul Sellers and Frank Strazza.

After completing the foundational course, he continued going back for additional classes every chance he got.

Since then, he’s have been honing his skills and seeking out new areas of woodworking to discover.

He’s made many different things, from small wooden boxes and kitchen utensils, to a craftsman style rocking chair and Windsor chair. He’s even restored old tools and made some of his own.

He’s committed to sharing his knowledge and experience with people like you.

He lives to see you experience the feeling of pride when you master a joint or complete a project. That is what it’s all about.

If you want an instructor who is as experience as he is committed to your success, look no further.
